This is so upsetting for many reasons but I have to say I am so upset to see that @FollettLearning provided student checkout information including student names 1/ 7 #tlchatnbcnews.com/news/us-news/s…
From article - “London also secured subpoenas for Follett School Solutions, an education software company that Granbury uses to help manage its library collection, to obtain records for the dates and times that several titles were checked out from campus libraries.” 2/7
“Some of the records obtained by London included the names of students who had most recently checked out the books — a clear violation of student privacy, according to First Amendment experts.” 3/7
This is NOT OK!! @FollettLearning you could have fought the subpoena. We need vendors who will fight for what we all know is right. We do not need vendors who will comply with these outrageous requests. 4/7
I am so disappointed in @FollettLearning as someone who has lost their job due to censorship & is still dealing with the emotional & financial repercussions I need to speak up against what you did. These brave librarians were facing prison 5/7
And you @FollettLearning gave the police confidential information protected by the first amendment to them which could have lead to these librarians prosecution. This is not the first time you have done something like this. 6/7
I would love to hear an explanation from @FollettLearning on why you complied. This action has scared a lot of librarians who use your product including me. We await your reply 7/7 #tlchat #FutureReadylibs #istelibs
