I work with a lot of material from the 30’s so I thought this 1935 Japanese phrase book would be a great way to see how contemporary phrases were translated and OH BOY

Look at this fancy chap

Mmmm no don’t like this. Inventive, but awful to look at.

Some pages have red while others don’t and apart from the grammar section above it seems mostly random?

Discovering gender at the Kabuki theatre

Phrases in Cupidland (CHICHI)

A few outdated services and a rabbit

ARE YOU NOW QUITE POSITIVE THAT ENGLISH IS ALWAYS CORRECT?

It’s a small, fiddly book to get good photos of and there’s currently no copy of this available online, if people are interested I can attempt to digitise it.

By Jove!

Good morning! Thank you everyone for enjoying this book with me. 😊

I will see if I can digitise the whole thing in the near future.

I run Yobanashi Café, translating public domain Japanese literature and making it available online, free and forever: yobanashicafe.com
