This is absolutely extraordinary from a group calling itself Accesible Corstorphine For All. Rather than improving pavements, he suggests people not driving take a half-mile detour. Kids, parents, people using wheelchairs - all expected to detour for the sake of drivers.

The blue route is Manse Road, in the “historic conservation village” that used to have 4000 vehicles a day and that he thinks should be prioritised for cars. The red routes are his suggested alternatives. Don’t forget, the objection to the LTN is that people have to drive further

Worth pointing out that ACE have also repeatedly said that the bus gate was unnecessary because Manse Road was quiet, yet now say it is too busy for children to walk on.

In the very next sentence, just after saying that people should walk an extra half mile or more so people in cars aren’t inconvenienced, he says the best way to reduce traffic is to “make it as easy as possible to get around on foot”

“Make cycling more attractive” says the spokesman for a group opposing cycle lanes and denouncing cycle advocates as “ideologues”.

“We’re not against the LTN as a concept” - without traffic restrictions it isn’t an LTN. You are against traffic restrictions, so you are against the LTN.

Also, worryingly, Cllr Munro doesn’t appear to understand the scheme. She asked if they would be happy if the bus gate was removed but the rest of the LTN remained. Without the bus gate then the LTN, already limited as it is, would not exist.

Seen this @FrankRoss06 ?

In her deputation, the Neilsons rep said that clients often come late into meetings saying “sorry, I couldn’t get parked”.

There have been absolutely no changes to parking as part of the LTN scheme.

The ever increasing protest at St Margaret’s Park. First it was 300, then 500 and now it’s over 1000. It’s like the Sex Pistols at the Lesser Free Trade Hall.

“Featherhall Avenue is one of the most dangerous roads I’ve ever driven on”

Several years ago, the council did a trial to make it one way and address the very problem he raised. Residents wanted it removed because it affected parking.

The best part of this? He represents the “Oswald Terrace Group”.

Oswald Terrace has timed school street restrictions to prevent non-residents from entering. So, to use his logic, hard-working people have to take a diversion when driving.

The local Lib Dem councillor is trying to claim that an opt-in self-selecting feedback from - which anyone can reply to and makes no attempt to achieve a representative sample, or indeed check that the responded lives in Edinburgh, let alone Corstorphine- is valid.

Is this how the Lib Dems set their policy? Are they now against LTNs entirely? I think we should be told.

If they do set policy based on internet responses then we are in for some fun times ahead.

There is no Farmfoods in Corstorphine - it’s been Iceland for years. Iceland have been cutting stores across the UK. The Lidl which opened nearby a few years ago will have been the bigger factor in the closure. Why drive to the Gyle if you can’t go to Iceland?

“We go too much stick, not enough carrot when trying to encourage active travel”

The carrot is attractive conditions for active travel - you know, like decent cycle lanes, which you cave in on at the first sign of trouble.

“There was a Lib Dem amendment not to go ahead with the bus gate…”

Except that’s not the case, though.

I’m sure @kevin_lang will be keen to correct this lapse in his memory and will issue an apology.

@kevin_lang Did Kevin Lang tell his Lib Dem colleagues about the detailed consultation carried out and the changes made in response?

@kevin_lang And there ends the committee time on this topic.

And I’m going to open a bottle of wine. Bought from a local retailer, reached by active travel.
