We’re occupying the Straterra HQ to protest fast-tracked seabed mining by their client: Trans-Tasman Resources.
Why Straterra? They are a malignant force, operating in the shadows to exert a pernicious influence over Govt policies.
Here are some excerpts of their 2023 plans👇
As we face a biodiversity crisis, Straterra is actively working to ensure access to critical conservation land by the mining industry and that as little as possible of the conservation estate is properly protected.
Straterra worked to undermine the popular call for no new mines on conservation land — and it seems they were successful because the Labour Government did not implement that policy.
90% of NZ’s wetlands have been destroyed and the rest are in crisis and at risk of further degradation unless more is done to protect them. But Straterra clearly states that they worked to OVERTURN fresh water protections that prohibited mining near natural wetlands
Again, in the biodiversity crisis when Aotearoa has already suffered horrifically high extinction rates - Straterra is working to prevent indigenous biodiversity from being protected.
In the #climatecrisis, when the science clearly shows burning coal has to end if we are to maintain a livable planet, Straterra works to influence the Climate Change Commission and Govt policy to ease restrictions on coal.
And open-cast mining of the seabed. Not happy with more mining on conservation land, Straterra is working to ensure the industry can exploit the seabed as well! Trans-Tasman Resources aims to rip up 50 million tonnes of the seabed every year for 30 years!
