Hi #Cleveland, I'll be live reporting today's Cleveland Landmarks Commission today, Nov. 14, 2024. This board is responsible for determining whether buildings, sites or historic districts are eligible for designation as landmarks. @CLEdocumenters @signalcleveland
This commission follows established criteria listed in the Landmarks Ordinance and uses the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation to review proposed changes. The commission also offers feedback on concept plans.

The meeting began officially at 9:06. There seemed to be people still coming in at 9:05, possibly late from the rain. They began with the preamble.

1st on the agenda is Certificates of Appropriateness. 1st up is Case 24-088; Gordon Square Historic District CITY arts Peace Wall in Cleveland #5 – 4701 Detroit Avenue Mural. This is in Ward 3, Councilman Kerry McCormack
Project Representative: Tsipi Ben-Haim, CITYarts, Inc.
CityArts reaches out to all 50 states to create these murals. The mural will be 10ft by 36 ft.
- The commission said it could be graffitied. Hesitations were made for the placement. Commission voted to table. Motion was made. Motion passes.
Next up is Case 24-078 Ohio City Historic District (Tabled September 26, 2024). This is at 1828 Fulton Avenue & will be a Façade Rebuild.
Ward 3: Councilman Kerry McCormack
Project Representatives: Eugene Pallas, Owner. Window replacement / installation of division.
Motion was made to approve the reconstruction of the walls, seconded. Motion passes 7-0.
Next is Case 24-045: Ohio City Historic District (Tabled October 24, 2024) The Red Shed–West 32nd Street Renovation, Ward 3: Kerry McCormack
Project Representatives: Brad Nosan, Property Advisors; Michael O’Neill, Architect. Existing elevations also shown. 3rd option is preferred

Some division w/ the location as well as the design arose when questions / comments came. It's a split approach right now.

Next is Case 23 & 101-102 (schematically): Ohio City Historic District (Concept/Schematic Review completed October 12, 2023) 2828 Clinton Avenue. We're hearing both.
Demolition Ward 3: Councilman Kerry McCormack
Project Representatives: Michael Christoff, Denver Brooker, Vocon.
The board has public comment and they requested that this area of land be preserved. It also commented on the new construction and concerns w/ citizens. They also received a comment from Malachi house that's in support. They also received a letter from Ohio City Inc. in support.
Motion was made in favor of demolition. Seconded. Motion passes.

The commission is still struggling w the elevation. There is obviously some tension between Geis/Brandon Kline and the commission. This is the 7th time Geis has come thru the commission. Geis voted to table and come back at another meeting. Motion table passes unanimously.
Next on today's docket, NATIONAL REGISTER FOR HISTORIC PLACES NOMINATION OHIO HISTORIC SITE PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARD 12/4/2024, which is Calvary Presbyterian Church 7812 Euclid Avenue
Ward 6: Councilman Blaine A. Griffin, Motion was made, seconded. Motion passes unanimously
