Working to make Europe fossil fuel free! ✊

👉We are asking the @EU_Commission to do the bare minimum

A month ago we requested documents connected to the 2023 @InfoTrinomics @Enerdata study on energy subsidies in the EU commissioned by @Energy4Europe

A thread🧵op.europa.eu/en/publication…

🛢️The study analyses the energy subsidies including fossil fuel subsidies in EU Member States. It found that in 2021 fossil subsidies amounted to 56 billion EUR, and 123 billion in 2022.

This is an important study, because that's the basis of Commission policymaking on energy subsidies. If you don't know the status quo, you can't change it.

This is also the data @EUEnvironment relies on to create its monitoring reports on progress towards the 8th EAP objectives

To our surprise three of the four annexes, including the full inventory of energy subsidies (!), in the study were not in the public domain.

For no discernible reason.

We had to request them. You can access them here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/…

🙄It is odd that @WBHoekstra underlines the importance of transparency for the phase out of fossil subsidies when the most basic of actions to improve transparency is not carried out by @EU_Commission @EUClimateAction.

⤵️

We have questions:
1⃣Why wasn’t this data made public one year ago? Why did we have to request this data in the first place, if you ended up releasing it in full?

2⃣Will the data of the upcoming 2024 study be made fully public?

➡️If even the lowest of the low hanging fruit are ignored (despite whatever @WBHoekstra claims), we can’t say we trust the willingness of the Commission to do something.

🚶‍♂️Once again, we ask @WBHoekstra and @DanJoergensen to walk the talk.
