The new frontlines of #Syria (Thread🧵)

After the fall of #Asad, a new power struggle has erupted between multiple parties as all try to gain control over the country.

A short analysis.

On December 8, HTS overthrew the Asad’s government and proclaiming control over the entire country but there’s more to it, The Syrian democratic forces(SDF) have refused to give up and are fighting to keep their control over northern Syria.

Who are the SDF? Made up of Kurdish YPG,PKK and some fractions of FSA and some 100,000 strong, this coalition funded and backed by the USA was formed to fight against ISIS, Asad forces and Turkish backed rebels.

Clashes have erupted between between the Turkish backed Rebels and the SDF in Manbij, Kobane, Raqqa and Deir ez-zor governorates. Both sides are using heavy calibre and modern weapons against each other.

After the fall of Damascus, the popularity of SDF have gone down dramatically in the region, with protests demanding their withdrawal, there are reports of SDF forces firing on the protesters claiming 10 lives.

Deir ez-Zor, primarily an Arab area in eastern Syria,The SDF with support from U.S. forces ostensibly to fight ISIS, has taken control of the region, leading to increased tensions. Local Arab tribes perceive the PKK/YPG's control as an external imposition, fueling resistance.

On the other hand, Isreali forces with 10k troops have advanced 25km into Syria and 40km away from Damascus, facing no resistance from any group and is determined to create a buffer zone.

Israeli airforce have also destroyed the leftover equipment of the Asad forces such as ammo depots, air defences and aircrafts etc as preemptive measures with the largest air raid since the Arab-Israel war.

The Russian forces have withdrawn from the areas and bases it once controlled and have been given a safe passage by the rebels as they withdraw their Ballistic Missiles and other equipment.

American forces will continue to operate in Syria and control the oil fields in the region as per Us officials.

No statement regarding the Israeli advancements have been made by the HTS leadership as they are busy in the transfer of power from the former prime minister of Syria.

The future of Syria remains unclear and uncertain, peace is far from guaranteed, as old players are leaving the country, new players continue to pour in with their own agendas. The people of Syria deserve a better future.

My hopes and prayers are with them 🤞🏻
