A motion just filed in Eric Adams case confirms Trump DOJ is investigating the origins of the indictment and prosecutors involved in the case.
This includes Danielle Sassoon and Hagan Scotten who is described as "aggressive and careerist as U.S. Attorney-1 (Damian Williams)"
🧵
Scotten appears to have high hopes of becoming a judge and a conviction of Adams was key.
Here is a text exchange a few days after 2024 election.
Reminder of Scotten's Feb 14 wmail to Emil Bove:
One reason DOJ sought to dismiss the indictment was the political aspirations of Damian Williams, who appears to be laying the groundwork for a run for office in New York.
While both Sassoon and Scotten (and their defenders in the media including at NRO) insisted the case was legit and not politically motivated, correspondence produced as a result on the ongoing DOJ investigation into misconduct at SDNY demonstrates otherwise.
Back-and-forth between other prosecutors and Scotten--who appears to have taken the lead in writing a Jan 2025 letter filed in the case to challenge Adams' accusations of political motivations by Damian Williams--shows they KNEW the case was politically tainted. (Scotten is AUSA-1)
Williams wrote a lengthy piece for a NY policy website in Jan 2025 that can only be described as a campaign platform.
Adams cited this and Williams' new fancy website as proof he was using the case as a basis to run for office.

@CityAndStateNY Scotten (AUSA-1) admitted the article was problematic for the team and struggled to get the wording right for SDNY response
Sassoon and Scotten later told the judge Williams was acting as a "private person" in writing the article and rejected Adams' claim of tainting jury pool.
