Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Rand Paul, also of Kentucky, will hopefully get on the Republican bandwagon, for a change, and fight the Democrats wild and flagrant push to not penalize Canada for the sale, into our Country, of large amounts of Fentanyl, by Tariffing the value of this horrible and deadly drug in order to make it more costly to distribute and buy. They are playing with the lives of the American people, and right into the hands of the Radical Left Democrats and Drug Cartels. The Senate Bill is just a ploy of the Dems to show and expose the weakness of certain Republicans, namely these four, in that it is not going anywhere because the House will never approve it and I, as your President, will never sign it. Why are they allowing Fentanyl to pour into our Country unchecked, and without penalty. What is wrong with them, other than suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome, commonly known as TDS? Who can want this to happen to our beautiful families, and why? To the people of the Great States of Kentucky, Alaska, and Maine, please contact these Senators and get them to FINALLY adhere to Republican Values and Ideals. They have been extremely difficult to deal with and, unbelievably disloyal to hardworking Majority Leader John Thune, and the Republican Party itself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune have been working tirelessly on taking the next step to pass the plan for our ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL, as it is known, as well as getting us closer to the Debt Extension necessary to continue our great work. The Senate Budget plan gives us the tools that we need to get our shared priorities done, including certain PERMANENT Tax Cuts, Spending Cuts, Energy, Historic Investments in Defense, Border, and much more. We are going to cut Spending, and right-size the Budget back to where it should be. The Senate Plan has my Complete and Total Support. Likewise, the House is working along the same lines. Every Republican, House and Senate, must UNIFY. We need to pass it IMMEDIATELY!

SJ Res. 37

51-48: The Senate passes a resolution to cancel the National Emergency declared by POTUS, which block Trump's tariffs on Canada.

4 Republicans joined Democrats in voting yes:
• Susan Collins
• Mitch McConnell
• Lisa Murkowski
• Rand Paul

Also noteworthy:

Rand Paul of KY appeared on Fox News along side Hillary Clinton’s 2016 running mate, Senator Tim Kaine from VA, to tout his support for the passage of S.J. Res. 37.

Tariffs are taxes

🔗 reason.com/2025/04/02/the…

Rand Paul full speech in front of the senate on 4/2/2025.

I would like to add that during the time of the founding fathers, American leaders declared war with Great Britain over INCOME TAXES.

From that time until 1913, there were no income taxes.

The country instead used tariffs to fund its at-the-time much smaller and less abusive federal government.

IMHO, Rand Paul is right about tariffs being taxes; BUT only to a point.

I feel he is basing his analysis on a short-term basis with relation to tariffs, in order to grandstand for whichever of a multitude of reasons.

As an American, would you rather keep income taxes high/increase income taxes on American citizens over the next ten years OR use international tariffs to potentially reduce/remove individual income taxes over the same time frame?

Tariffs are NOT direct taxes on consumers here in the US.
Might the prices on specific tariffed items increase in the short-term? Absolutely, yes.

But if paying even double the price for Canadian goods for a short period will reduce the deficit to a point that my/other American’s income taxes do not increase, or even decrease over the next 10 years, it’s 💯 worth it.

Let’s also note that the USA is not dependent on Canada’s economy, and therefore has a large amount of leverage when negotiating trade with Canada who truly does depend heavily on the US economy.

If US tariffs on Canada do go into effect, I do believe they will be short lived anyways.

The long-term goals of these tariffs are more important to the growth and prosperity of the country, and that is to bring Canada to the negotiating table.

Items most worthy of negotiation:

1. Slow the flow of Fentanyl into the USA from Canada.

Fix the fentanyl crisis.

2. Level the international playing field when it comes to trade between the neighboring countries.

Create a better trade environment allowing the USA to prosper in an equal trade agreement with Canada.

I hope that the voters in KY can see through what Senator Paul did today. If he has a better idea, maybe he should run for president - oh wait, he has! How has that gone?

Not sure when the USA will have a better opportunity to fix these problems. The USA deserves better.

THESE tariffs are EXACTLY what I voted for as an American citizen, as did millions of other Americans.
