GP TRAINING an example for @gmcuk @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk @NHSE_WTE
GPs are trained extensively Minimum:
5 years of medical school
2 foundation years which include surgery and medicine
Plus 3 years minimum as experienced Doctors with extensive supervision, exams & assessments
GPs understand the full curriculum of education as set out by RCGP
This is a full and comprehensive curriculum covering all aspect of medical education and health & social care rcgp.org.uk/mrcgp-exams/gp…
The examinations GPs undertake are thorough & evidence based, with years of research & experience.
GPs have clear guidelines and recommendations regarding scope of practice, before they can consult with undifferentiated patients
Only GPs can do thisrcgp.org.uk/mrcgp-exams
The problem for PAs is none of the safe guards are in place to review & consult with undifferentiated/not pre-selected patients
Despite this lack of safety NHS England has implemented PAs in ARRS seeing undifferentiated patients

GMC needs to be clear that the scope, training, education & management of supervisory roles is also needed
Currently PA supervisors are not required to be trained in supervision
Supervision of GP trainees by fully qualified Drs is regulated by GMC with GP trainers on a register
There is no requirement for supervisor roles for PAs to be similar for GP trainees, despite the greater need for supervision
No training, accountability or assessment is required, like it is for GP trainers supervising experienced doctors in GP training

The GMC/NHSE seems to be allowing supervision to be done by almost anyone, it is failing to be clear about the education, training, scope of practice in patient consultations
This together with NHS England guidelines is a huge safety concern for patients
