8 Yogic Superpowers That Science Still Can’t Explain 😱
They’re not fantasy.
They’re called Siddhis.
And ancient Rishis said anyone could unlock them with intense sadhana.
Let’s dive into the mysterious world of Yogic Powers (Ashta Siddhis).
A Thread 🧵
In the West, we hear of superpowers in fantasy movies.
👉 But in Sanātana Dharma, there are 8 Yogic powers called Ashta Siddhis... attained not by magic, but by deep inner discipline.
They were documented in:
— Patanjali Yoga Sutras
— Bhagavatam
— Shiva Purāṇa
— Tirumantiram
👉 These Siddhis aren't mythology.
They're outcomes of mastering the subtle energies of the body... prana, mind, time, and space.
Even today, some yogis in India are believed to exhibit traces of these powers.
Let’s explore each one 👇
📌 Anima – Power to Become Smaller than the Smallest
The ability to reduce one’s body to a microscopic size.
👉 Used by yogis to:
• Move through matter
• Remain unseen
• Enter subtle realms
Hanuman Ji used Anima to enter Lanka secretly.
Modern science = Quantum Tunneling?
📌 Mahima – Power to Become Huge in Size
To expand one’s body to cosmic proportions.
👉 Hanuman Ji also used Mahima to grow vast while burning Lanka.
👉 Shree Krishna showed his Mahima during the Vishvarūpa in the Gita.
📌 Garima – Power to Become Heavy Like a Mountain
The ability to increase one’s weight infinitely... without changing body size.
👉 Some yogis were said to become so heavy that even elephants couldn’t move them.
Modern physics has no explanation.
📌 Laghima – Power to Become Lighter than Air
Enables levitation, flight, and walking on water.
👉 Many siddhas were seen floating during meditation.
Not illusion... but control over gravity through pranic lightness.
Western term? Anti-gravity.
Hindu term? Laghima.
📌 Prāpti – Power to Reach Anywhere Instantly
Instant travel... through space, water, walls, or even dimensions.
👉 Yogis used this to access other lokas or to retrieve herbs from distant mountains.
Also known as ākaśa gamanam (space travel).
Teleportation in science fiction.
Reality in yogic fiction.
📌 Prākāmya – Power to Manifest Anything One Desires
Materializing objects, fulfilling any desire, or becoming invisible.
👉 It’s the ability to bend maya... the illusion with the strength of conscious will.
Modern term? Consciousness affecting reality.
📌 Iśitva – Divine Lordship Over Nature
The power to control Panch Mahabhūtas (5 elements) — fire, air, earth, water, space.
👉 A yogi with Ishitva could:
– Calm storms
– Walk through fire
– Breathe underwater
– Command animals
Mastery over matter itself.
📌 Vaśitva – Power to Control Minds and Emotions
The power to attract, influence, or control others... through sheer presence or mental projection.
👉 Described in texts as a “magnetic aura” developed by advanced yogis.
Not manipulation.
It’s the radiance of pure consciousness.
👉 But here’s the twist:
Even though these powers are real,
true yogis don’t chase them.
They appear naturally as a result of self-realization.
In fact, Patanjali warns:
“These siddhis can become distractions on the path to moksha.”
📌 So why do they matter today?
Because they show the untapped potential of the human body-mind system.
Your consciousness isn’t bound by biology.
The ancient Rishis were not dreamers... They were scientists of inner space.
In the age of AI and VR, we’re trying to extend our senses outward.
But the Rishis turned inward,
and discovered superpowers buried deep within.
You are not limited.
You are infinite potential in human form.
Just a second... 🙌
