3 Hindu Texts That Describe Interplanetary Travel – Thousands of Years Ago 😱
Ages before the idea of “planets” was even globally accepted…
👉 Ancient Hindu texts spoke of traveling between worlds, not metaphorically, but with surprising detail.
This will blow your mind...🧵
When we hear the word “Vimana,” we think of Ravana’s Pushpak aircraft.
But what most people don’t know is:
👉 Multiple Hindu texts talk about interplanetary travel.
They describe aerial ships, cosmic routes, and different planetary realms... called Lokas.
This is not fiction.
Let’s look at 3 key texts 👇
📌 The Rigveda
Rigveda (10.22.14) says:
“The Earth is kept in space by the law of cosmic order (Rta).”
This verse confirms:
— Earth is suspended in space
— It follows a cosmic path (Rta)
— Space is not “empty”, it's a structured cosmic field
It doesn’t stop there.
The Aitareya Brahmana (Rigvedic text) speaks of devas traveling to different Lokas... using celestial paths (Devayāna) and astral vessels.
👉 It’s said:
“The one who knows the secret path of the gods reaches their worlds while alive.”
📌 The Mahabharata
In the Mahabharata, Vimanas are not just mythic vehicles... they are technologically complex aerial crafts.
👉 Take this verse:
“It soared into the sky with a tremendous din, and fire spouted from beneath it.”
– Mahabharata, Bhishma Parva
A perfect eyewitness description of a rocket-like launch.
📌 But interplanetary travel?
Yes.
In the Mahabharata:
— Arjuna is invited by Indra to Svarga
— He travels in a divine Vimana
— Meets devas, learns new weapons, then returns
This is described as a real journey, not a dream or vision.
👉 Even Karna is said to have visited Surya Loka in a celestial craft.
These descriptions include:
— Cosmic flight
— Advanced vehicles
— Time dilation (a day in Svarga ≠ day on Earth)
Sounds a lot like… relativistic space travel.
📌 Vaimanika Shastra
This Sanskrit text, attributed to Maharshi Bharadwaja, is a full-blown manual on aircraft.
And not just for Earth.
It describes:
— Types of Vimānas
— Metals used
— Energy sources (solar, mercury, etc.)
— Interplanetary missions

👉 In one section, it talks about "Tripura Vimana"... a three-tiered spacecraft capable of traveling:
— In air (Bhūloka)
— In space (Antariksha)
— Between realms (Deva-Loka)
It even mentions how to navigate cosmic storms and gravity wells.
👉 One quote says:
"The Vimana moves not only on Earth, but also between stars and planets… through the solar and lunar rays, and etheric currents."
This was written ages before satellites or spaceflight existed.
Even NASA reportedly examined this text.
📌 But how did they travel between planets?
Hindu cosmology speaks of 14 Lokas... planes of existence above and below Earth:
🔺 7 Higher Lokas:
Bhū, Bhuvah, Svah, Mahah, Janah, Tapah, Satya
🔻 7 Lower Lokas:
Atala to Pātāla
👉 Each has its own space, beings, and physics.
Travel between them was possible via:
— Vimānas
— Yogic projection
— Mantra-tantra energy routes
— Astral vessels
More examples:
👉 King Kakudmi visits Brahmaloka & returns to find millions of years have passed (Time dilation)
👉 Yudhisthira’s journey to heaven in bodily form
👉 Trijata’s dream in Ramayana... describing Shree Rama and Maa Sita in the skies, surrounded by divine beings
👉 Shukracharya uses spacecraft-like crafts to travel between Loka realms
📌 Was this metaphor, mysticism, or real physics in symbolic language?
Here’s what we do know:
👉 These weren’t vague ideas... the details are technical
👉 Flight manuals exist (Samarangana Sutradhara, Vaimānika Śāstra)
👉 They describe gyroscopes, energy engines, time effects, invisibility
👉 Even modern scientists are puzzled by their depth
So, Whether you take it literally, metaphorically, or spiritually…
👉 Sanātana Dharma described space travel in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.
From Rigveda to Ramayana... we flew, mapped, and moved between worlds.
Just a second... 🙌
