MLB Draft guide for Tennessee baseball fans

Draft starts at 6 PM ET on MLB Network with Tony Vitello as a guest analyst. Tune in early because there will be Vols’ names being called early and often tonight.

A thread 🧵

Day one (rounds 1-3):

Current roster
Liam Doyle
Gavin Kilen
Andrew Fischer
Marcus Phillips
AJ Russell
Dean Curley

Transfers
Henry Ford
Matt Barr

High School commits
Billy Carlson
Kruz Schoolcraft
Steele Hall
Cameron Appenzeller
Ethan Moore
Trent Grindlinger

Liam Doyle has been projected as high as number 2 to the Angels where he would join Christian Moore and Ben Joyce as former Vols in that organization.

Kilen and Fischer are also projected first rounders heading into the draft.

Tanner Franklin and Nate Snead could also hear their names in the top 3 rounds but are more likely to go on day 2.

Henry Ford looks like he will be heading to campus, however if a team meets his asking price tonight he would likely go pro.
Campus confidence meter: 70%

Matt Barr looks to be headed for pro ball out of juco. Would be a shock for him to make it to campus.
Confidence meter: 5%

High schooler shortstops, Billy Carlson and Steele Hall seem like locks to go pro at this point.

SS Ethan Moore has seen his name skyrocket up draft boards over the last couple months and could go pro as well.

If any of those 3 make it to campus they will contribute very early

High school pitching is where it gets interesting tonight.

LHP Kruz Schoolcraft seems like he could go either way at this point. He is the number 19 player according to MLB’s draft prospect rankings

True 50/50 chance he gets to campus

LHP Cameron Appenzeller is the other big high school name to watch tonight. He would likely be a round 2 pick if he goes pro but it looks like the Vols have some momentum to get him to Knoxville

60/40 in favor of Appenzeller wearing orange next spring

C Trent Grindlinger is the number 2 high school catcher on the board. Fortunately for Tony Vitello, it looks like he will head to Knoxville.

75/25 Grindlinger is in Knoxville next season
