The tide has turned against the Albanese government’s efforts to enforce surveillance on the people.

Senator Ralph Babet successfully garnered the support of the Coalition and the Greens for his urgent motion against age assurance measures for access to the Internet.

With the majority agreeing this Code entailed significant digital surveillance under the guise of child protection.

Surprisingly the coalition took particular aim at Julia Inman Grant!!

Thread 🧵

Senator Babet called for the removal of age assurance measures.

Government ID checks, biometrics, scanning that’s data mining!

Warning we are rapidly moving towards a state where online privacy is illegal.

Liberal Senator Maria Kovacic echoed the Coalition’s growing concern with Julia Inman Grant.

‘The remit of the E Safety Commissioner without adequate safeguards is getting out of hand.’

Even the Greens acknowledged the surveillance overreach.

Senator David Shoebridge -

‘This Code does entail significant digital surveillance dressed up as child protection.

The debate concluded with Senator Alex Antic issuing a dire warning that this digital
dystopia must be stopped before we descend into the Chinese Surveillance State.

‘Once this system is in place. The digital snare trap is in place.
It’s going to be impossible to wind back.’

What an important win it was!
