The New York Times just ran a hit piece on the ECI, parroting every word of the Opposition.
But just like every time, they conveniently ignored the Election Commission’s detailed rebuttals & hard facts, let’s expose their sold-out journalism. #Thread
1- NYT says there was a “sudden revision” of Bihar’s voter rolls.
Fact: Not sudden
It was a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) after 22 years, triggered partly because TMC (part of INDI alliance) itself launched a “find fake voters” drive.
2- “6 million voters cut from rolls”? Sounds scary, until you see why:
22 lakh deceased
35 lakh permanently migrated
7 lakh duplicate registrations
1.2 lakh incomplete forms
Large number found to be foreign nationals during BLO verification
And not a single party filed claims against this in Bihar, not even RJD or Congress, 11 days after publication.
3- NYT quotes Rahul Gandhi saying, “The mood would be one thing, result something else.”
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP performed well. But in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP didn’t, the public mood shifted against them. Did you see BJP crying about rigging?
Winning and losing margins change. That’s democracy, not conspiracy
4- On “voter verification is made difficult”- another falsehood.
Congress doubled its Booth Level Agents in Bihar during SIR: 8,586 ➡ 17,549 (+105%)
CPM: 76 ➡ 899 (+1,083%)
CPI(ML): 233 ➡ 1,496 (+542%)
Clearly, parties had the access & tools to verify voters.
5- Rahul claimed and NYT peddled- “no digital data shared”.
Fact: Under law, digital & physical copies of electoral rolls are given to every recognized political party, including INC, before every election.
6- Maharashtra “voter fraud” allegation? ECI already demolished it:
Only 6 constituencies had >50k additions, not 47 as claimed by Congress.
Additions & deletions followed due process with party participation.
Net addition: 40.81 lakh voters, mostly youth.
7- ECI has even issued Rahul Gandhi a notice to submit proof of his allegations in Mahadevapura constituency so an inquiry can be done.
But he denied to give his claims in writing. No affidavit. No evidence. Because he knows he is wrong and it’s all propaganda to mislead the country.
Did you see NYT even mention this fact once?
8- NYT quotes Anjali Bhardwaj on “erosion of voter trust” but doesn’t tell readers she’s under FCRA violation allegations, having received over ₹25 lakh from foreign funding against rules.
9- By cherry-picking opposition claims & ignoring ECI’s documented replies, NYT pushes a narrative: That India’s elections are rigged.
The truth?
Opposition had access, data, & legal processes, they chose chaos over action, even refused to attend a meeting called by ECI to discuss such issues.
10- When facts don’t fit the story, agenda-driven outlets omit them.
India’s democracy isn’t undermined by the ECI.
It’s undermined by those who reject due process, skip evidence, and shout “rigging” only after losing.
