🧵 1. As President Trump has made clear, it’s time to end mail-in voting
Utah should lead the way on this
Other states will follow
#ElectionIntegrity
#UtahFirst
2. Mail-in voting opens the door to fraud & undermines trust in our elections
By contrast, in-person voting with ID ensures security & transparency
3. States like Texas & Florida are already tightening voting laws
Utah has the chance to be a model for the nation by prioritizing election integrity
4. Let’s push for legislation to eliminate mail-in voting and require voter ID
The Utah legislature should lead on this & then encourage other states to do the same
It’s time to restore confidence in our elections
5. Don’t confuse mail-in voting (where all voters automatically receive ballots by mail) with absentee voting (where alternative voting options can be arranged based on need—e.g., illness, disability, military deployment, travel, etc.)
Some wrongly conflate them—perhaps in an effort to scare people into thinking that ending mail-in voting would be unfair to military personnel and Americans with disabilities—but mail-in voting and absentee voting are very, very different
6. Absentee voting has long been managed responsibly and should be preserved
The same cannot be said of (non-absentee) mail-in voting, which presents far too many risks that can’t adequately be mitigated
