In July 2025, a masked man entered a police station in Dharmasthala, Karnataka, holding a skull and alleging that he had been forced to bury hundreds of women and minors, many victims of sexual assault.
His chilling confession ignited a nationwide controversy.
The man, identified as CN Chinnayya, claimed he had been coerced into burying these bodies between the 1990s and 2000s.
Overwhelmed by guilt, he approached the police to expose the alleged crimes.
The claims quickly gained traction, with media outlets like The News Minute, News Laundry, and Al Jazeera reporting on the alleged mass burials.
These reports were based on Chinnayya's statements and an AI-generated video by YouTuber Sameer
Siddaramaiah govt immediately orders
SIT investigation as if they were waiting for it
However, the investigation reveals inconsistencies in Chinnayya's statements.
Forensic analysis showed that the skull he presented was likely a 40-year-old lab specimen, casting doubt on the authenticity of his claims.
Chinnayya's former wife described him as a habitual liar, suggesting financial motives behind the fabricated allegations.
This raised questions about the credibility of his testimony.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrests Chinnayya for perjury and providing false evidence.
He later admitted that he had been coerced into making the allegations as part of a larger conspiracy.
Who coerced him?
The SIT's findings led to the exhumation of several sites, but no substantial evidence of mass burials was discovered.
Most sites yielded no human remains, while others produced only partial or aged skeletal remains.
Despite the lack of evidence, the controversy sparked political and religious tensions. Protests erupted, with demands for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the matter.
But karnataka Govt rejects CBI or NIA probe
Media outlets like The News Minute, News Laundry, Alt News and Al Jazeera faced backlash for reporting on the allegations without sufficient evidence, leading to questions about journalistic standards.
The situation turned stranger still Chinnayya wasn’t alone. SIT investigations revealed that he was backed by shadowy associates: activists Mahesh Shetty Thimarody and Girish Mattannavar, who allegedly sheltered him and helped procure the lab-specimen skull to fuel the conspiracy
YouTuber Mohammad Sameer MD, In July 2025 unleashed a 24-minute AI-generated video, “Who Are Serial K!llrs of Dharmasthala?”, layering unverified lurid details atop the sanitation worker’s claims. Garnering over 3 million views, the video triggered mass outrage
He was booked under Sections 192, 240, and 353(1)(b) of BNS for "provocation" and spreading false information
He later secured anticipatory bail and has appeared before the Belthangady police multiple times for questioning
BJP leader @Tejasvi_Surya accused that someone from Delhi recommended and ensured the involvement of the SIT to stop the CBI probe in this case
Who is from Delhi Congress who is orchestrating these events?
The most suspicious role in this entire conspiracy is of digital media platform News Minute
Dhanya Rajendran tweeted 40 times on Dharmasthala in 2 months; yet the entire story turned out as fake.
As of August 2025, the SIT continues its investigation, focusing on uncovering the motives behind the fabricated allegations and ensuring accountability for those involved in spreading misinformation
The Dharmasthala mass burial controversy serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of left propaganda media, dirty conspiracies and their hatred against Hindus
