Yamal Cross is located approximately 2700km from the Ukrainian border.

๐Ÿ“In Russia, there is not only a Unified Energy System that connects all large power plants into a single network, but also the vast majority of the power industry has an even more centralized supply of fuel - natural gas.

๐Ÿ“In 2016, the share of gas in the Russian power industry was 72.6% throughout the country. That is, the absolute majority of industry, transport and urban economy in Russia depends on natural gas. Which is mined mainly in one place, in Yamal, and is transmitted through a system of main gas pipelines to consumers and for export.

One look at the map of main gas pipelines in Russia is enough to understand how vulnerable this industry, key for the country in general and for defense in particular, is.

๐Ÿ“ It is enough to cut off the main gas pipelines in literally three places to almost completely cut off the European part of Russia, where the bulk of the population and the bulk of industry, including military, are located, from gas. And, as a result, from electricity, from heat, from raw materials.

๐Ÿ“And it is worth paying attention that on the map of main gas pipelines there is a place where 17 large gas pipelines intersect at once. The place is known as the "Yamal Cross". It is located on the banks of the Pravaya Khetta River, near the village of Pangoda, and indeed from a satellite it looks like two crosses drawn directly on the tundra.

๐Ÿ“Gas pipelines cannot be disguised, they are perfectly visible on satellite and aerial photographs, mainly because for safety reasons all trees and bushes in the right-of-way for gas pipelines are cut down. And in general, the entire gas and gas transportation infrastructure is perfectly visible from the air: wells, gas compressor stations, gas pipelines, underground gas storage facilities.

๐Ÿ“A warhead explosion can break the tightness of the pipeline and cut out a spark, and then gas under pressure of 54 atmospheres will do everything else. The force of the explosion is such that it tears out and throws tens of meters of large-diameter steel pipe to the side and creates a large crater, above which a column of burning gas appears.

๐Ÿ“The loss of 85% of gas will lead to the shutdown of most power plants, to the cessation of the supply of electricity and heat to residential buildings, to a sharp reduction in the work of railways.

Electricity will remain only in the very margins, only for the most important facilities and the most urgent needs. If the impact occurs in winter, in severe frosts, the damage will be much greater than from a nuclear bombing.
