Knights of Guinevere world building, let’s talk about it. Particularly “Blue Lung”
The one thing Dana never slacks on is the settings of her crafted worlds and KOG doesn’t disappoint.
Park Planet is a nightmare wrapped in an idealistic capitalist and commerce’s dream. 1/9
At the start of the pilot we see a gleaming and glided landscape above the clouds and scraping the atmosphere. It’s a feat that’s impressive and seemingly impossible.
But below the floating park of wonders there’s a planet being suffocated and warped to serve. 2/9
“We are all victims of the Park” as Andrea says.
Our introduction to one of our protagonists shows us a TON of context clues. There’s two medical vending machines at our forefront. Hinting at some sort of endemic that happens on this planet. “Crownies” are also looked down on->
But let’s focus on this endemic of sickness that seems to be gnawing at the everyday life of the people of M7
“Blue Lung”
It’s a blink and you’ll miss it scene, but among the ads of the park there are warnings scattered throughout about this strange disease. 4/9
A hacking cough and blue sputum, the same excess that fills the park Androids that seemingly makes them tick. And it’s also highly possible that it’s contagious or chronic.
And what would cause such a condition you might ask?
Well, it’s the park obviously. 5/9
Smoke stacks from the “recycling” plants polluting the sky, the trash from the park contaminated below, no part of the planet is seemingly untouched. The Park’s influence reaches far and wide. To some it’s a blessing and to others a curse. 6/9
Even the labs themselves, a place that’s praised for its new ideas and opportunities cast away their failures deep into the ground, injecting more poison and waste into the planet without care.
This planet has been warped to serve an artificial and egoist’s dream. 7/9
The people can’t even escape its influence, almost every working facet of the planet’s economic gain and cycle focuses on some aspect of the park. From the brightest minds making new animatronics to the blue collar strongman making merch on an assembly line. 8/9
I cannot WAIT to see what else we have in store for this show. I can only hope to expand just exactly what’s happening to this planet and Andrea finds herself a cure to her own affliction of Blue Lung. WATCH KOG. 9/9
