Sure, David killed Goliath…

But that's nothing compared to what happened after he became king.

His story is actually a masterclass in how power corrupts and why even the 'man after God's own heart' wasn't immune... (thread)

Before being king, David was:

• A shepherd boy
• A skilled musician
• A loyal soldier
• A humble servant

But power changed everything…

The same man who once spared his enemy's life multiple times…

Started making choices that would eventually tear his kingdom apart.

Here's how it happened:

1. The Bathsheba incident.

David saw a beautiful woman from his palace roof.

Instead of looking away, he asked about her.

When he learned she was married, he still pursued her.

Then he arranged to have her husband killed in battle.

The lesson?

Small compromises lead to bigger ones.

2. Family problems.

David's son Absalom killed his half-brother for assaulting their sister.

Instead of dealing with it directly, David avoided the conflict.

This passive leadership led to a civil war that nearly destroyed everything he built.

3. Pride took over.

Despite God's warnings, David conducted a census of his military might.

He wanted to know his strength in numbers rather than trusting in God.

The result?

A plague that killed 70,000 of his people.

The fascinating part?

David's greatest moments came AFTER his biggest failures.

When confronted about Bathsheba, he didn't:

• Make excuses
• Blame others
• Hide from the truth

Instead, he wrote Psalm 51 - one of the most profound pieces about repentance ever written.

This is what makes David's story timeless:

Even the greatest leaders are human.

What matters isn't avoiding failure...

It's how you respond when you fail.

Want to dive deeper into this story?

Read "David: A Story of Passion and Destiny" by Charles Swindoll.

This book completely changed how I view leadership.

Swindoll breaks down:

• David's rise to power
• His greatest victories
• His devastating failures
• The lessons we can learn

The ultimate lesson?

Power doesn't corrupt people.

It reveals who they already are.

& when you find yourself in a position of influence...

Remember David.

Your character will be tested not in your moments of weakness...

But in your moments of strength.
