A THREAD DEDICATED TO
Late Col Sangram Singh Bhati
SC
10 PARA (SF)
Braveheart who was not killed by any enemy's bullet,
was killed by a deadly disease on this day in 2018 due to multiple organ failure as he was suffering from Jaundice.
Col Bhati was the third generation from his family to join the armed forces.
His grandfather had taken part in the Second World War from Sardar Infantry, while his father, Late Col Shyam Singh Bhati fought wars of 1965 and 1971 with Pakistan. He passed away in 2020.
Col Sangram Singh was the former CO of 10 PARA SF. He was one of the most decorated Special Forces Commando. You can clearly see the badges and decorations on his uniform.
He was posted at OTA Chennai as an instructor, the cadets trained under him must be proud to learn from him.
In May 1999, then Capt Bhati and his 15 commandos of elite Special Forces were sent on a reconnaissance mission at Kargil-Drass Sector.
They detected movement of Pak Army there which led the Indian Army to launch Operation Vijay, the Kargil War.
He was awarded with Shaurya Chakra in 2000 for his leadership and Act of Bravery in Operation conducted in Kashmir Valley.
Later he was also awarded with The Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal (SYSM) It is India's highest wartime distinguished service decoration.
Col Bhati with Maj (Dr) Surendra Poonia, VSM
& Capt Vikas Yadav with another Commando of 10 PARA (SF).
During a covert operation in early 20s, disguised as brainwashed jihadi, then Maj Sangram and Capt Vikas stayed with LeT terrorists in their camp in a jungle for 4 days.
During this covert operation, they gathered a tremendous amount of information and killed all 4 terrorists. The Indian Army broke down the LeT netwrk using that information. Terrorists were so terrorised that they were always on the run thereafter.
