XFG, the currently dominant strain in the US, is a combination of LF.7 and LP.8.1. This was not included in the paper but both LF.7 and LP.8.1 showed a good response.
As previously noted, both JN.1 and LP.8.1 vaccines provide good cross protection against circulating variants.
There is some indication of the winter wave peaking, but remember about half of infections necessarily occur on the back end of the wave. About 1% of deaths in the US are currently due to COVID.
Vaccines help reduce the risk of infection, severe illness, and long COVID. Recent data shows this includes protection against long-term impacts in children and reductions in all cause mortality for multiple years in adults.
