Lizards do not become alligators.
A thread 🪡
Life is understanding that people change in phases.
Different phases of our lives demand different versions of us.
It is the people who refuse to change that stay stuck.
Life is not a straight path. It never was.
The only thing that remains constant is change.
Think about school.
When you want to go to school, you play the part.
Many people did not like what they studied. They were not passionate about the course.
Some even complained every semester. But they still showed up. They still read. They still wrote exams. They still followed the process. And in the end, they walked away with a certificate or a degree.
You might say, “It’s just school,” and that’s fine.
But the lesson is bigger than school.
As we grew older, we began to notice a pattern.
The people who eventually became something meaningful did not wake up one morning and suddenly transform. They had been playing that role long before the title arrived.
I had friends who played the part to become doctors.
Friends who played the part to become politicians.
Friends who played the part to become professionals in their fields.
To the outside world, it looked like a sudden change.
To the people close to them, it was not new at all.
They had already been living that life in preparation.
Growth is not accidental.
People do not magically evolve into greatness.
They act their way into it.
Lizards do not become alligators.
And I have to pause here deliberately, because that should be the title.I going back to the first tweet on thread. I have a topic 😁
If you think about anyone you admire, anyone you want to emulate, ask people who knew them when they were younger. You will hear the same story every time.
They were already moving differently. Already thinking differently. Already adjusting, learning, switching, and adapting with the tides of life.
If you want to build a business, you must start acting like a businessman.
If you want a top-shot career, you must start carrying yourself like a professional.
Not pretending. Not performing for applause. But practicing the habits, the discipline, and the mindset required.
You act to become it.
You play the part of what you want to be, because repetition shapes identity.
Practice builds confidence.
Consistency builds credibility.
This does not happen overnight.
It takes time.
It takes patience.
It takes humility to look unfinished while becoming.
But nothing real happens without first being practiced.
That is how people grow.
That is how people change phases.
That is how lizards never become alligators, but alligators always knew who they were becoming.
