Why the "alpha males" choose sulky misogynist idols, I don't understand.

Today is Chuck Yeager's birthday - the first pilot to fly faster than sound - and he made sure the world knew the credit he gave to Glennis, his wife.

Real legends lift people up.

This guy hauled ass to serve his country in WW2, even after he got shot down and returned from occupied territory - and the rules said no combat duty for him.

He got the brass to make an exception - to put him back in WW2's skies.

He named plane after plane "Glamorous Glennis", after his wife.

"She was my lucky charm. Any airplane I named after her always brought me home", he wrote. They were together until cancer took her in 1990.

He lived to age 97, passing in 2020.

Not content to be a WW2 ace or break the sound barrier, he kept on as a test pilot. His feedback to avionics engineers was brilliantly intuitive.

He knew how to take planes like this rocket-powered Starfighter past their limits and live to tell the tale.

I'd crawl over broken glass to trade our bonespurs and "alpha" grievance peddlers for another Chuck Yeager. legion.org/information-ce…

He had real courage, real goodness, a sense of duty, and he lifted us up. That makes him part of the version of the USA I wish we'd choose to be.
