(HGB) Haemoglobin shows how much oxygen your blood can carry. It is the main sign of blood doping. Softares watches your personal changes over time. Normal for male athletes: about 13.5 to 17.5 g/dL. For female athletes: 12.0 to 15.5 g/dL. Big jumps or drops look suspicious.
(RET%) Reticulocytes, young red blood cells. This number shows how fast your body makes new ones. After doping, it drops very low. After losing blood, it goes high. Normal range for athletes: 0.5% to 2.0%. Very low or very high values compared to your normal can mean doping
OFF-score, a calculated index designed to detect EPO abuse or blood doping after the substance has cleared. It combines high haemoglobin with suppressed reticulocytes. Normal values: 80–105. Scores >110–115 or <70–75 often indicate manipulation.
(Abnormal Blood Profile Score) ABPS, a multivariate, machine-learning-based score using seven blood parameters (HCT, HGB, RBC, RET%, MCV, MCH, MCHC) to detect overall blood profile. Typically range: -2 to +1. Scores higher 1 are increasingly suspicious of blood manipulation.
Operational framework of the athlete biological passport program
You don't need fancy AI. You need blood samples, trend charts over time, and smart analysis. You can handle a lot of it yourself in Excel — as long as you understand what normal physiological ranges look like.
If a value falls way outside the normal physiological range it's usually either a disease or some form of manipulation (like doping). The key is knowing those ranges and watching for unnatural patterns in the data.
You won't find Athlete Biological Passport data anywhere publicly. Strict confidentiality applies here — it's protected under data privacy rules. The data includes sensitive health and biological information, so it's only accessible to authorised bodies.
The UCI, the teams, sponsors, Amaury Sport Organisation ... are pleased about this, as it allows them to protect their product and the associated market. A real leak would require a whistleblower.
