1). Research has shown there is a significant decrease in American attachment rates between older and younger generations to church.
Why?
At some point, the finger must be pointed at the incredible involvement in things that pull and frankly keep children from church.
2). What things?
-anything that is given precedence of TIME over church attendance
-anything that is given in precedence in VALUE
-anything that is given precedence FINANCIALLY
There are other things, but when parent replace time, values, finances and life expenditure
3). we ought not be surprised that the children learn the valuation of what church, its doctrines, its teachings, its practices is a matter of secondary, tertiary, or even not at all in real ways.
How, then, do we reverse such?
A change of heart/mind and obedience.
4) Establish church attendance as the prime objective of our calendars.
-you miss other things because of church attendance, in other words.
-make Sundays, as we hear, great again by setting it aside from “another” day to do chores and other things.
-Do the same for midweek
5). Seek, with the same diligence, opportunity to serve in the church as you seek opportunity for serving elsewhere.
Yes, I am speaking of sports, activities, likes, interests and relationships.
6). Engage deeply in explaining why church (and its mission) must have the highest value.
-eternity is a great place to start
-purpose must be built from it outward.
7). You will send money on what you value most. You DO spend money on what you value most.
-financial giving is a clear indication of what is valued, and giving to the church is an objective measure of that valuation.
8). Make home an extension of the valuation that you place on church.
-reiterate truth
-teach truth
-model truth.
9). Why these things?
Because you already are teaching them what you value.
-You’d never teach them to be a shortstop without taking them to the ballfield.
-You’d never teach them without the expense of such.
-You’d never encourage them except by watching it at home.
10). The key to church attachment lies squarely in these things.
You CAN change not only your would, but that of your children.
And their eternity.
