Ok this is interesting. Usual caveats apply. First as we discussed in the space, the fire DID spread outside the confines of the laundry, which means containment (stopping spread by radiation/ convection/ conduction) failed badly /1
Berthing spaces (we call them messdecks) were subjected to a fire so intense it seems to be steel only that has survived. That means the bulkheads have been subjected to temperatures that will change the chemical composition of the metal IE that needs cutting out /2
The person filming was on BA, though the berthing space seems clear of smoke, so clearly there are residual gases that ventilation cannot remove. Plus ofc you can expect the ventilation system itself to be trashed. They have removed the water / foam used for firefighting /3
Note the footage from the hanger. Remember we talked about efficient timely smoke containment. Smoke kills ships. Yet the smoke boundary here has either failed or they were trying to vent via the hanger. Not great as we would use hanger for mustering spare hands / BA dump etc /4
Laundry (same situation with clear signs of very high temperatures) hear there is still water sloshing about underfoot. Draining down/ pumping out hasn’t been completed. Note darkness throughout here and in mess deck. Zero electrical power and no emergency lights rigged yet. /5
Smoke here for me is key. It’s impossible to hammer home how vital smoke containment and boundary cooling is. My conclusion based on this footage remains pretty much the same as in the space and in the thread /6
There was an initial fire in the laundry that personnel and attack party failed failed to extinguish. The fire spread rapidly through poor boundary cooling. Poor containment and failed crash stop vent made adjacent compartments inaccessible and the fire spread to other spaces /7
The long period of time to extinguish the fire can be understood now, as multiple support parties had to fight through compartments to get to the seat of the fire. There will be severe smoke and heat damage as well as boundary water cooling damage /8
In short, if this is genuine, a proper pot mess of an Incident. But they did pull things back at the end. And nobody died. But barring some spectacular temporary repair work she’s off the board for a while pending full structural survey of affected areas and assessment of damage
