The CBC is misleading Canadians again on trade talks with the US. Their headline screamed that Trump’s team is demanding an “entry fee” from Ottawa. Sounds like a shakedown, right? It’s not true. Here’s what’s really going on 👇

CBC claimed Canada already gave big concessions and got nothing in return — rolling back tariffs and scrapping the Digital Services Tax (DST). Wrong. Those weren’t concessions. They were us finally living up to the CUSMA agreement we expect the Americans to follow.

Quick facts:
• Canada kept retaliatory tariffs on U.S. consumer goods long after the U.S. clarified CUSMA-compliant goods were exempt.
• The DST was a blatant violation of CUSMA Article 19 — something both Biden and Trump opposed.

Carney’s team refused to even pause the DST as a good-faith move. Trump called off talks. Then, at the last second, they killed it entirely. Tough-guy act that backfired spectacularly.

There is NO “entry fee” demand. The Americans just want some goodwill — like letting American booze back on Canadian shelves. (Meanwhile, more Crown Royal is sold in Texas than all of Canada combined.)

Numbers don’t lie: In 2024 Canada exported $419 BILLION USD to the U.S.
Our next biggest partner? China at just $21 billion. We can’t “pivot” overnight. Canadian jobs are on the line.

National media isn’t giving you the full story. They’d rather push the “Trump is bullying us” narrative than admit our own government has been violating trade rules and playing politics instead of protecting jobs.
Are the Americans in violation in some areas yes.
