/ Two years ago I obtained a copy of the Danish pesticide application registry. Today, I present , which I think is the world's first national map of estimated pesticide applications at field level - and it's going back to 2010 ⬇️ pesticidkortet.dk
/ First and foremost, no one but the farmer can tell you exactly what was sprayed next door! But we can estimate it based on what the farmer that owns that field has sprayed on his fields with the same crop. You can read more about the methodology here: pesticidkortet.dk/pesticidanalys…
/ There are many limitations; and we can "only" disaggregate 92% of the consumption. Also, we have to rely on the farmers' application reporting - which has historically diverged quite a bit from the sales reporting.
/ The code behind is open-source (so it can be improved), and was made possible by a lot of people, including @Klimabev and Fonden Arkaia. It was a lot of fun, and has already led to quite a few newspaper articles in Denmark.github.com/Klimabevaegels…
/ I hope to be able to collaborate with researchers to strengthen the methodology behind our approach and I'm happy to help them if they're keen to explore the spatio-temporal data. If you're an NGO, a journalist, or just a citizen interested in the dataset, hit me up :)
