From a 1839 Saint-Simonian booklet sympathetic to the negro cause: "From the time of the French Rev, the emancipation of Jewswas always linked to that of the Negro [...]. As of today, the first Israelite who became a French diplomat represents France in the Republic of Haiti."
He then goes on to say that the Black race is "the female race", "like women, the Negro is devoid of political and scientific abilities", "he has to the highest degrees qualities of heart, domestic sentiments: he is a man of the interior", "is passionate about fineries, dance";
"While the White man is pantheistic, gets absorbed in the contemplation of the infinitely big, the Black man is a fetishist, adores the infinite power in its tiniest manifestations." "Since domesticity & servitude were identical, emancipation of women & Blacks will go together."
Oh my.
"More precisely, it is in the Black woman [emphasis of the author] that the emancipation of women must be fully realised."
It gets better at every sentence: "One could say that the typical couple is composed of a White man and of a Black woman. I heard Combes and Tamisier remark that the most beautiful couple one can imagine is a White man with a Black woman." (The author is a Jew btw.)
Interesting, he advocates islam & quotes Napoléon saying that only allowing polygamy and more specifically, to allow men to have one woman of every color will enable true equality in the colonies; otherwise (just like Tocqueville later) one race will always oppress the other.
