I’m completely sympathetic to people who want to split from the Democratic Party.
But most have no idea how modern campaigns work. Platner resigned because the DNC cut him off from access to the NPG VAN file, not the allegations 🧵
Without that kind of data you cant win a modern election & anyone trying to pretend that you can has never worked on a large campaign & doesn’t understand what the NPG VAN is
It wouldn’t require massive investment & can’t be replicated by a group of plucky door knockers 🧵
Moreover, regardless of your opinion about Platner, it should concern everyone that the DNC could just cut off the duly elected Democratic primary winner from access to the NPG VAN. If they can do it to him they can do it to anyone & effectively destroy any campaign.
What’s in the NPG VAN? Well pretty much everything you’ve ever done, like it or not. For instance, they’ve been buying up your credit card receipts from Mastercard & VISA for the past 30 years. They know where you buy and what you buy, and that data is used to microtarget you.
Donald Trump & his associate PACS, who had access to the GOP equivalent, creatively used this kind of data to overcome Harris’s cash advantage:

So if you’re prescribing a break with the Democratic Party, I don’t disagree, but you do need to seriously consider if what you’re suggesting is even possible and have a plan for replicating essential assets or you’re just fighting to be stranded in a political wilderness.
