Curtain call on last night's #rosenkavalier. What an amazing performance. I'll share some thoughts in this thread.

The staging hovered between traditional and a hint of modern. Carsen tried to make it right for everyone. This worked most if the time.

State directions were perfect. With the enormous space on the stage it could be hard to make the scenes not static but this was excellent.

There was never a static moment. They really managed to get a great story out of the libretto. The way that Ochs

swayed between Mariandl and the Marshallin in act 1 and how Octavian took control of the super scene in act 3 were awesome ideas.

Voices: Günther Groissböck's Ochs was just phenomenal. He was for me the star of the night closely followed by Elina Garanca...

and Erin Morley (Sophie). Maybe it was because of my high expectations but i was not totally convinced by Renée Fleming's Marshallin.

It was certainly perfectly sung but it felt like a little too much routine - which it probably is for her... ☺️

However, judging by applause the rest of the audience seemed to disagree with me on this one...
Orchestra was fast-paced but always on point

Overall a great memorable performance throughout. I might never make it back to the @MetOpera but this one visit is sure going to last. 👏👏👏👏
