The #OfficeForStudents must (Higher Education & Research Act bit.ly/2A063w5)
have regard to need to promote equality of opportunity in connection with access to & participation in HE. Evidence #NoToTobyYoung raises grave concerns about recent appointment to #OfS.

OfS governed by Equality Act: bit.ly/2kriKfA. Views contrary to protected characteristics (including gender & disability) & duty (not yet in force) to reduce inequalities of outcome resulting from socio-economic disadvantage hardly compatible.

Principles of Public Life (bit.ly/1HVjjPL): ‘Holders of public office must act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias.’ OfS bound by Principles. Again, grave concerns about this appointment.

Serious concerns about Commissioner for Public Appointments' role (bit.ly/2CirfOf) & minister’s discretion. CPA FoI response: ‘did not choose to inspect .. paperwork for this competition held by .. Dept. of Educ. that ran it’ (bit.ly/2Ain9nx). Judicial review?

Petition of concern about this appointment: bit.ly/2CPbaAw. Assess all evidence, choose wisely. Higher education must be regulated consistent with the law and highest standards in public life.
