I was Jordan Peterson’s strongest supporter. Now I think he’s dangerous
thestar.com/opinion/2018/0…
The most important thing in this article the way Jordan Peterson came to be an university professor: Bernard Schiff vouched for him and fought with the others to get him in.
After that, the second thing that is important: he came to prominence by falsely claiming C-16 compels people's speech in 2016. All this reminded me of an experience I had as an feminist activist in Serbia.
5 years ago, I started a very small group of activists to attack one professor in position of power, similar to Peterson. His name is Andrej Fajgelj (has a YouTube channel and he's published in English and French in the media).
Andrej Fajgelj is the same generation as I am ( he was 35 at the time). Andrej gained a position of power (became a director of a local public cultural institution in the city of Novi Sad) trough the newly formed neoliberal right wing party full of young men hungry of power.
I remember how he came to be know and praised in the first place. They gave him a chance to speak in the city hall and this speech was praised as "young PHD professor gives hopeful speech" (he posted all his speeches on his YouTube channel and on the channel of the institution).
This was his entry in the public sphere. The speech was full of demagoguery. In the first couple of moths he managed to make a scandal by expelling the art students of our state art academy from the institution he was newly in charge.
Their crime was blasphemy! Remember this happened in 2013. He is a Christian and he was offended because a young girl brought her work that depicted faceless crucified Christ on a cross holding money in both hands.
People could put their head through the face frame so anybody could "become this depiction". The work was totally typical for this young women's generation and the art world is full of works like that.
He has thrown the whole show out of the gallery because of this work, and he started this scandal by writing a post about it on his personal Facebook page.
He was already surrounded by our local version of alt-right dipshits, and the scandal reached the local media, and then it became really viral, and known in the mainstream media.
We started our protest about it by going in front of that cultural institution he was now changing with his religious fundamentalist bullshit and making the same pose as the work depicted and we were posting it on the Facebook group we founded.
Andrej was pretty pissed, raging! He immediately founded a contra-group to fight us off. The whole art community in his town was against him.
He tried all sorts of threats and tricks he could pull, he had their own media TV and newspapers and websites and a group of contra-activists to hunt us down, and shut us down, but our eyes stayed focused on him the whole time.
By pressuring him over the years from the Internet, we managed (I was the one who actually made him famous among the lefties) to bring him to a point to make a serious error of judgement a couple of times.
I provoked him to pay some guys to piss on this institution and to publish the video as it was his detractor's doing it. I knew he's a deranged person. In the end he used his power to give a lot of money from this institution to his friend.
He was publicly fired after that but all the damage he has done in public was just going along with the ruling right wing party politics in Serbia. Secularism is practically destroyed.
If you'd ask Andrej why he was fired he's say that's because he attacked our president at the time, and because he's a "true nationalist" and "truthful to his nation and tradition", and a "faithful member of our Orthodox christian church".
But if you ask a feminist like me, the FAME WE GAVE HIM BY REBELLING AGAINST HIM, helped to bring his TRUE SELF to the surface.
I didn't go into all the details of the damage this guy did in Serbia while being in the spotlight but his case is totally the same case of deranged and angry white men loosing ground in society and not being able to have their father's positions in life, because progress.
This is why men like Peterson and Fajgelj are angry. I know, I grew up very similarly as Andrej did, but he's a man and he has "expectations" from society.
Andrej Fajgelj rallied against gays, against communists, against atheists, against women's liberation in particular (he has 4 kids which is totally unusual in this country that is economically fucked up for long) ...
against political correctness, and FOR SOCIAL ORDER OF THE PAST TIMES (which is practically feudal period in Serbia LOL before the communists change it all).
He even managed to shut down my Twitter account for a couple of days (they reported me for mentioning him every fucking day LOL) and he used to tell people "some crazy feminist attacks me for no reason" in public, but he never succeeded to shut us down all.
I was pretty good hacker I must say. :D I'm very proud of my cyber warfare against him, although I was attacked by my peers for my methods.
In the end, he was out of the public, lost his party and the state job, he's not HOT anymore, so he transferred to YouTube to preach about his politics there. He has 9000+ subscribers, which is pretty lame even in Serbia, if you consider our petty celebrities reach 20.000 easy.
Andrej is a nobody now. He's a professor still, I think, but that's so unimportant considering he could have become a prime-minister if the bigger nationalistic fish haven't eat him. You see, in Serbia, intellectuals of any kind are not good political figures.
In the end, I'm proud to see him there, where he belongs as an MRA he is. Andrej Fajgelj should never have been given any position of power, because his politics are fascist and he's a deranged person.
But as always, power-hungry white men bring another power-hungry white men to these positions and they justify each-other by doing that. Only when they rebel against their "father" then they're out of the system of male supremacy.
So, it's pretty good that feminists deal with Jordan Peterson in any way they can. The pressure must be there. I also appreciate what that guy Dyson did, although I have very little in common with the his politics.
That triggering was precious: the rage poured out. People like Peterson should be challenged in any way possible. Their lies should be exposed as their true nature always shows.
There's a pop song in Serbia from the 80's, and it goes like this: No, no, no, don't believe in IDOLS, in the faces from movies and front pages, you can do without them.

True that.
Imagine what is like being a person idolizing Peterson on the Internet. Lame small impotent lives.
