This misses the fairly unique issues which refugee children face. ORR does need to track and monitor the children it is responsible for to ensure they get the assistance they need and can gain formal refugee status is applicable, the issue is that they don't do that.
To claim as this thread does that we shouldn't be concerned about #WhereAreTheChildren because they are better off being hidden away by family members may be well intentioned, however, it ignores the higher risk factors which affect refugee children than other groups.
The fact that HHS, and its ORR department, relinquish all care and assistance to refugee children once they are placed with a sponsor is bad enough, to then not be able to confirm that they are safe though is a failure of massive proportions.
Saying that people should not be concerned about the welfare and location of 1475 children because some of them may be being protected by family members accepts some will be trafficked on a strange "greater good" basis.
Now personally I don't think that is an argument which can be sustained, but even if you want to try you still miss point that children who are with family members are still being excluded from a system which should be looking at providing formal recognition of refugee status.
As I said I am sure that the thread is well intentioned, however, it abdicates responsibility for 1475 children. If you want to argue that the system should be changed to ensure that the rights of refugees and migrants are protected I am right there with you.
If, however, you want to claim we should turn a blind eye to 1475 missing children because some of them may possibly be safe with family members, and ignore those who most certainly aren't, then you are just as bad as those at HHS who lost them. #WhereAreTheChildren
