I've been thinking a lot about this tweet.

My thoughts below:
1. It is 100% true. Hitler didn't rise in a day. It took months, years even, or eroding democratic norms. It wasn't an avalanche. It was a drip, drip, drip.

We are seeing this here, clearly.
2. Trump is following the Hitler playbook. It is horrifying to see. He is scapegoating groups, actively subverting our trust in the press, setting up systems to tear away children from families, messing with our economy and railroading politicians into backing him at all cost.
3. Most of us are terrified, but are not sure what we can do, as individuals. Voting is KEY, we know that. November is 6 months away. We march, we tweet, we try to do what we can to keep our personal lives, and the lives of our children, as normal as possible.
4. Trump will eventually go away. Either through impeachment, not gaining reelection in 2020 or, if god forbid he IS relelected, gone for good in 2024.

Can we survive that long, though?
5. Donald Trump is evil. He is a demagogue. He is a liar. A thief. A conman. He stokes hate. He allows certain populations to feel justified in their hatred of the "other" - anyone who isn't a white Christian. He emboldens them to attack, both verbally and physically.
6. Even after Donald Trump leaves office, the hatred he has brought back into normal life will remain. We will have to work extra hard to exterminate it, make it scurry back into the shadows, where cockroaches and rats live.
7. But what can we do NOW? I was in target yesterday buying stupid crap for my house - toilet paper hand soap, paper plates. And I felt so guilty. All night I had been tweeting about #WhereAreTheChildren and then I went back to my normal life.
8. This is where I get stuck. I do not know the answer to "what can we do NOW". I am lost. I hate feeling like I can't do anything. I tweet, I always vote, I encourage others to do the same. I resist - HARD.
9. But I cannot just show up at ICE headquarters or the White House or Paul Ryan's office and try to reason with these people. I am just one woman. No one will listen to my one voice, no matter how polite and patriotic and American I am.
10. So I'll end this depressing thread with:

If anyone has some good ideas about what we can do - REAL ideas, please add them here. I do not know if we can hang on if Republicans remain in control after the midterms.

I fear we may lose our country for good. I am despondent.
