If you are traveling to Istanbul & Antalya, or are interested in traveling, this might interest you.

1) Istanbul Card is a bliss. It costs 6 Liras and with a top-up of 15 more, it is best to get around.

2) Avoid taksi (taxis). They are exorbitant

3) If you are a museum person and are going to check out major ones then get the Fast Track pass (125 Liras). If not, just buy the regular tickets at museums/palaces you are interested in.

4) Basilica Cisterna is not a part of the above-mentioned pass.

5) As a vegetarian/vegan, tons of food options! My breakfast is usually a crunchy simit/ acma with cheese.

6) Wear jeans + Half-sleeved tee + carry a scarf for Blue Mosque. Men, tee+ jeans. Or you can get a covering skirt/covering cloth + scarf for free at the mosque

7) Carry Liras. And Euros as backup. There is an exchange center near Basilica Cisterna that also exchanges without any commission.

8) Istanbul LOVES football. So if you are here during world cup, catch the live matches. You won't be disappointed with the atmosphere.

9) I loved Hagia Sophia over Blue Mosque. More so because I felt bad about people praying being disturbed by hordes of visitors.

10) Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar remain closed for 3 days during Eid.

11) Great link for food options and where to try them:…

12) And something on street food:…

13) The secret (now not so secret passage + viewing point) of Büyük Valide Han is closed. Locals got fed up of people going crazy on the top of the roof. :/ :(

14) Sulemaniya Mosque is breathtaking. Spent more time there than Blue Mosque

15) Right outside Sulemaniya, I had bean stew with rice at Kurucu Ali Baba Kanaat Lokantasi. Only to find out later that this humble street restaurant is a celeb when it comes to beans + rice. Must try.

16) Yes, it is August. But it rains! Carry the right gear for it.

17) Galata Tower needs time - time to climb up the street, the line and then the climb up the tower. Plan accordingly.

18) Buy the Bosphorus Full Cruise ticket from Istanbul municipality. In only 25 liras you have an amazing tour. PLUS you get a chance to spend 3 hours in Anadola Kavagi.…

19) The street leading to Galata Tower is full of grafitti.

20) You can walk from Galata Tower to Istiklal street OR you could use the Tunel - the second oldest underground train in the world.

21) Keep Uber handy. Sometimes the transport fails you.

22) Galata Tower offers one of the best views (no doubt, and at a fee of 25 Liras). But these places offer beautiful views of Istanbul for free: Halic Bridge and Pierre Loti Hill. Another plus? To reach Pierre Loti Hill, you can take a cable car.

23) Fastest way to get on to the Asian side is Marmaray. Scenic way would be ferry to Kadikoy/Uskudar

24) During Azaan time, the square close to Uskudar Marmaray station has 2-3 mosques citing in unison. Beautiful experience.

25) Fish lovers, check out the Uskudar fish market. Fresh catch that you can buy. And has restaurants that cook fresh fare.

26) Sending international postcards is easiest from the post office. It cost me 12 Liras to send 3 (to US, Singapore, Middle East)

27) Aat the Kadikoy pier observe the sea water closely, you can see transparent little white jelly fishes as well as their remains. Mostly remains. I spotted 4-5 live.

28) For sweet tooth, Ice cream at Ali Usta Moda & Coup Grillet at Baylan in Kadikoy - musthaves.

29) If you need to access Gokcen airport from Kadikoy, use Havas bus. If you need to access it from European side, use this picture as reference. Shortest and fastest route that's not available on Google Maps.

30) The nostlagic old tram at Kadikoy has a longer route with cheaper fare. And less crowded.

31) During Eid, all transport (with a few exceptions at Tunel, Istiklal tram) are discounted by almost 50%

All notes from #Istanbul put together :) If something else comes up, will update this. Now, onto #Antalya

(In the sequence of moments, tip 22 is not budging and wants to stay there. So let us let it be.)…
