@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel Ralph Drollinger's evangelical ministry has been closely associated with Campus Crusade for Christ, whose founder Bill Bright advocated the use of stealth & deception (1986 book Kingdoms at War) and was an insider with the "Christian mafia" (their words) network, The Fellowship.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel Furthermore, one of the major funders of Drollinger's ministry has been the National Christian Foundation, which is the dominant philanthropy in the community of evangelical funders known as The Gathering, which is the funding arm of The Fellowship.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel I have written about The Gathering here: twocare.org/the-gathering-…

Among The Gathering's community of funders are Dick & Betsy DeVos - who also attends Ralph Drollinger's bible study groups.

I broke the story on Capital Ministries back in early 2017. twocare.org/pence-sessions…
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel Only one of the dozens, if not hundreds, of journalists who have subsequently covered the story have come to me with questions, and not one has cited my original story. twocare.org/pence-sessions…
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel This illustrates a perverse reality in today's perverse American politics & journalism - that people such as myself who have literally spent years studying the political evangelical right get consistently ignored and pushed to the margins...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel These are people who were, years ago, warning that the goal of the American evangelical right was to impose some version of theocracy or "biblical law". Years ago, when we did this, we were mocked and castigated directly from major media platforms...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel Our warnings were attacked as smears on American evangelicalism that were allegedly comparable to Nazi propaganda (see: usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/opinion/f… )
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel Op-ed writers for the New York Times pooh-poohed our warnings about "dominionists" ( nytimes.com/2011/08/29/opi… ) Here's what NYT op-ed writer Ross Douthat had to say :
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel "The religious right, they decided, wasn’t a normal political movement. Rather, it was an essentially illiberal force, bent on gradually replacing our secular republic with what Kevin Phillips’s 2006 best seller dubbed an “American Theocracy.” "
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel And we have a head of the mammoth Department of Homeland Security attending, along with the Attorney General, the Secretary of State, and God knows who else in the Trump Administration, the Bible study sessions of a pastor who teaches them...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel ...that the Bible justifies imprisoning toddlers and beating children to break their will, and that climate change is impossible because of a promise God allegedly made to Noah after the Flood.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel This would all be ridiculous, pathetic, and risible if the actual effects of our new "bible based" government were not so corrupt and horrific. We're heading into a real-life version of The Handmaid's Tale @HandmaidsUnite and it was quite predictable and maybe even preventable.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Occasionally, since the election of Donald Trump, I have roused from my depressed slough to take some action, such as my work exposing the theocratic and neo-Confederate connections of Roy Moore. On the former, his theocratic ties...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite I provided the source material to ThinkProgress that enabled this report, which made considerable waves in Alabama politics prior to the special US Senate election in which democrat Doug Jones narrowly defeated Moore. thinkprogress.org/moore-study-co…
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite But I also wrote a several thousand word detailed expose titled, "Roy Moore Ties To White Supremacist neo-Confederates More Extensive Than Media Reports Suggest" ( handmaidcoalition.org/news/roy-moore… )
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Now, the Handmaid's Coalition, the group of activist women who dress up as "Handmaids" (from the Margaret Atwood dystopian novel), recognized my report as quite important and asked to republish it, from where I had originally put it out, on a leading liberal activist forum.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite But guess what ? Leading (and paid) writers for that forum disparaged my report, claiming that it could increase Republican turnout for Roy Moore in the special election, because my report would document Moore's conservative credentials. I didn't respond to the allegation, but...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite There were two notable factors in the AL election that enabled Doug Jones to win his Senate seat. 1) Depressed turnout among conservative voters, especially women. That ThinkProgress report, that Moore was tied to people who want to deny women the right to vote, made waves in AL
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite ( One intrepid journalist for the New Yorker noted the divisive effect that the ThinkProgress report had among leading AL conservative female political activists - newyorker.com/news/news-desk… )
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite An even more important factor was strong turnout among black AL voters, who of course voted overwhelmingly for Doug Jones. I thought my report, which emphasized Roy Moore's ties to people who LITERALLY seem to want to re-impose some version of slavery, could have a big impact...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite But some liberals seemed to think otherwise, that all conservative AL voters were just so awful that they'd cheer on such radical, racist positions as I detailed in my report. That absurdly jaundiced view was, of course, wrong and, further, it was outrage among black AL voters...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite At whom my Roy Moore expose was really aimed, who proved willing to crawl miles over broken glass to defeat Roy Moore. They never got to know how bad Moore REALLY was, because nobody among the liberal activist crowd, who might have had the means, chose to give it a helping hand.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite I'm going into all this to illustrate that spending over a decade doing primary research into a field like the US evangelical right can REALLY reliably produce insights that are relevant to contemporary electoral politics. I could give dozens (probably hundreds) of other examples
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Political consultants are paid lavishly to miss such opportunities. Here I am, unpaid and disgusted. One big part of the problem, almost unknown, is that for well over a decade now, the key "go to" source for America's elite journalists who cover the intersection of religion...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite ...and politics has been the "Faith Angle Forum" and the person of recently deceased Michael Cromartie, who founded it. Yes, Cromartie was deeply knowledgeable. He was also an insider in "The Fellowship" (the "Christian mafia" - their words, not mine) that has for years sought...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite ...to gradually impose theocracy and "biblical law". Remember that funding group I mentioned and wrote on, called "The Gathering", which is the funding arm of The Fellowship ? In '08 and '09 Michael Cromartie showed up at The Gathering so solicit $ for his "Faith Angle Forum"...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Cromartie talked of "infiltrating" the media, and one of Rick Warren's right hand man guys attested that Cromartie's FAF was, in terms of bang for the buck, probably the best place to invest philanthropic dollars. The FAF is still running.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite One telling data point on Cromartie - back in he literally helped author what is now the stock conservative evangelical position, and apologia, on environmentalism and global warming denialism - acton.org/public-policy/…
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Among Cromartie's co-authors was E. Calvin Beisner, who went on to launch the Cornwall Alliance, the key petrochemical industry front group thatshores up evangelical anti-environmentalism. Cromartie was on the advisory board, and Cornwall, Beisner, and Cromartie advanced ideas...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite ...that Ralph Drollinger of Capital Ministries now sells to much of the Trump Administration cabinet - such as the idea that human activity CANNOT effect the Earth's climate or environment because of a promise God made to Noah. So imagine - a guy linked to such madness...
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite was for years (until his death in mid-017) a key source for many of the top religion 'n politics writers at the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Atlantic, the New Yorker, etc. Here's Kathleen Parker, of WaPo, with a loving obituary for Cromartie washingtonpost.com/opinions/to-br…
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Some of these people who loved Cromartie and frequented his lavish, all expenses paid FAF junkets in Florida also have been featured speakers at The Gathering - people such as David Brooks (NYT), Michael Gerson (WaPO), and Ross Douthat (NYT).
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Thus did The Fellowship, in this rather mundane and prosaic manner, infiltrate, subvert, and corrupt the very people who were in a position to warn of of impending theocracy or "biblical law".

Here it is, and here we are. They're still well paid. I'm not.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel @HandmaidsUnite Time for me to move along. Thank you for reading my protracted Twitter storm & cathartic eruption of outrage.
@C_Stroop @AndrewLSeidel ( Betsy does, at least )
