A few other thoughts on the EO Trump just signed:

- Trump is doubling down on the zero tolerance policy of prosecuting asylum seekers.
- Rather than end separation, the EO will mean kids as young as infants are incarcerated, in jail-like facilities.

- Incarcerating children is inhumane. The @AmerAcadPeds says that DHS "facilities do not meet the basic standards for the care of children in residential settings."

- Aside from being inhumane, family incarceration is insanely costly. ~$320 per person, per day. Alternatives to detention cost a fraction of that.

The Family Case Management Program cost only $36 p/d, per family.

- The EO has no way around the Flores settlement, which sets out minimum, common-sense standards for keeping kids in detention. So their answer is to try and go to court to overturn those standards entirely. But they can't do that by EO, so that is still up in the air.
- It's possible this goes even farther than the Ryan bill in authorizing indefinite incarceration of kids. Ryan only locks kids up with parents during 1325 (illegal entry) proceedings. This says: "improper entry or any removal or other immigration proceedings." That's seems broad
- Pres. Trump is banking on the fact that people will be so outraged by family separation, that they will be ok (or at least more ok) with family incarceration.

That's a false choice - we can solve this problem without either separation or incarceration.
