In April, I exposed Broward’s failure to spend $100 million in safety funds that could have saved lives at Stoneman.

Now, they’re kicking me out of school.

See you in court, @browardschools

2) Today, I filed a civil rights complaint with the Department of Education for discrimination and retaliation. Here’s why.
3) I was on track to graduate one year late, after rebounding from a crippling case of Lyme Disease that set my life back more than two years.
4) Under Florida law, students with disabilities are entitled to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) from the ages of three to twenty one.
5) The district cited a lack of credits as the reason they denied my appeal. This is after I made them aware twice that it was due to cognitive effects of the disease.
6) As for retaliation, the Superintendent has continually ridiculed my work as “uninformed” and “fake news” despite evidence to the contrary. Members of the School Board labeled my report “damaging” and “hurtful.”
7) Michaelle Pope was listed in my report as having directed officers to underreport crime. She is the head of Student Services, which oversees the office responsible for denying my appeal.
8) While I don’t believe the initial removal was discriminatory or retaliatory, I believe that the refusal to allow me to return to school is exactly that.
