Story time, not only does Costco make their suppliers go through rigorous audits before they'll buy

but they also do their own in-house QA on 1) how the audits are written, 2) the auditors doing the audits, and 3) the companies that manage the auditors.
Costco doesn't just get a paper certificate and go "cool, you're in."

They follow up to make sure individual auditors & the companies we work for are doing our jobs properly. They do random spot-checks by sending a 2nd auditor on our audits sometimes.
These Costco audits are stressful but kind of hilarious in their own way.

The rep & facility for the company you're actually auditing is there. And you're there, auditing them. And the Costco guy is there, auditing you auditing them.

everybody gets to shit bricks TOGETHERRR
And you know what? The Costco guy had really good feedback! He noticed some things I'd missed, and he had a GREAT recommendation for a small, super-bright, indestructible flashlight that you can actually travel with and it will still work when you get to the audit.
These Costco checks are NOT a formality. They're very serious & super knowledge, and really generous when it comes to passing that on to folks who don't even work for them.
And that dude was a young guy. A lot of his knowledge came from his coworkers passing it on to him, and he's likely going to be with Costco for decades.

IME you just can't touch that kind of institutional knowledge in any other food retail company.
