In two weeks, we will have a production/film crew in our home. They’ll film our life for 3 days. This will air in 150 countries. You will see the pain, struggle, joy, and happiness but what you will see through it all is the love.
You will realize your family isn't all that different from mine. Sure, we have to go through a lot more than most and Sophia needs a lot more to have a good quality of life but the love is the same.
One of the reasons for my advocacy is to educate others which is why I agreed to do this. It is important for people to see what life is like for families that are different from theirs. We need to normalize disabilities and facial deformities.
Also, this life can be very isolating and lonely and I'd like to let families like mine know that they are not alone. We don't get to see others who are dealing with the same life challenges that often.
When I talk to people and even mention that I have a disabled child I see and feel their demeanor change(not always). I can see their discomfort and the wheels turning in their mind of what to say. The best way I can describe it is if you've ever lost a loved one.
Some people act really uncomfortable around you because they don't know what to say or how to act. This is how it feels for me. I feel them searching for the right words to say but I don't need that.
Listening is great and asking questions is fine too. I don't need perfect words or a fix. I need to be able to be me and I need you to just be you and nothing more.

The fact that my life makes people feel so uncomfortable used to bother me.
I would end up not mentioning Sophia’s disabilities so I didn't make the other person feel uncomfortable and that felt so wrong. I don't do that anymore and now I am going to share my beautiful and unique girl with the world. I hope to open people's minds and hearts.
