So much this. It pains me to see a such a noble drink reduced to a cartoony tourist attraction.
The St. Regis New York claims credit for it, having served the original Bloody Mary (the hotel changed the name to The Red Snapper, as it Bloody Mary was deemed inappropriate) to upscale clientele.
I have the original recipe, as it is. You won’t be surprised to learn mini-cheeseburgers speared atop the drink are absent from the original 1934 recipe
I prefer shaved horseradish root to Tabasco, but who am I to mess with originalists?
