It's been just over a month since I purchased my @surface Surface Book 2. Short version: it's awesome.
Long version: thread.
It's awesome in part because I'm upgrading from a 6-year old Asus X202, which was woefully underpowered when I bought it.
This beast has a Core i7 processor, 16 Gigs of RAM, 512 Gig SSD, & an Nvidia GPU. It's like going from a Wright Flyer to an SR-71. It smokes my desktop PC.
But my previous three laptops were all high-end (at the time) ThinkPad laptops. Those set my standards for laptop excellence. They were all lighter and more powerful (and more expensive) than most everything on the market.
The Surface Book 2 is right up there with my venerable old ThinkPad T22. Thin, light, powerful. The only things that are missing are the TrackPoint pointer, which will always be the best way of mousing on a laptop (Don't @ me), and the classic ThinkPad keyboard.
The Surface Book keyboard is excellent, but I miss the longer travel of those old ThinkPad keyboards. Nothing compares.
Also, I really, really miss having a CTRL key on the right side of the keyboard.
There are a few quibbles:
I hate Windows 10's obsession with notifications, feedback, and Edge. I want the OS to get out of my face and let me work the way I want to work.

The mains-side of the power cord is weirdly short, only about 18 inches.
I wish there were at least one USB port on the screen to use when detached.

And yes, it's premium priced. I think it's fairly priced, but many people can get along just fine with a much cheaper machine.
Having said all that, though, this is a great laptop. Good work, @Microsoft @surface team!
