My personal lessons from #EkitiDecides2018. Issa thread👇
Lesson 1: Do not rig elections. But even if you want to rig, make sure you're rooting for the most popular candidate(s). Again, do not attempt to rig! But you got the message sha!! #EkitiDecides2018
Social capital is the differentiating factor between two qualified candidates. No matter how educationally sound you are, if you're likable, you're going nowhere. Invest in as much social capital as you can. It helps! #EkitiDecides2018
Lesson 2: Don't be an accidental politician: The best politicians that have made significant impacts in our pasts and presents are deliberate politicians. They knew what they wanted from day 1 and went after it. #EkitiDecides2018
Below is an excerpt from Chief Awolowo's autobiography when he requested £1,400 from that famous rich man from Ijebu to go to England to study law so that he could become a better politician. #EkitiDecides2018
I have not laid my hand on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed's autobiography but the little I studied from his little stay in the senate before military intervention in the 3rd republic and his long silence (his time of preparation) before showing up in 2003/1 #EkitiDecides2018
And today, Chief Bola Tinubu (like him or not) is unarguably the biggest force in Nigeria's political history. He is a leader that has produced more and better leaders than his contemporaries had done #EkitiDecides2018
Lesson 3: Maximize your strength but don't ignore your weakness. I watch Prof Olusola's interview after he cast his vote (my first time of seeing him speak on TV) and I like his innocence. Please watch the interview #EkitiDecides2018
I have great respect for Prof Olusola as a person. He was one of those brilliant young PhDs when I was in Ife. We all heard his stories of brilliance. His political emergence shocked those of us who used to attend his preaching at Deeper Life Campus Fellowship. #EkitiDecides2018
It was rare to see a deeper life member showing interest in politics. So I was not surprised that he lost that election. The reason for losing has nothing to do with Prof's brilliance. They're just two different terrains. Got the message? #EkitiDecides2018
Lesson 4: What does Nigeria need?Going forward into the future, Nigeria needs prepared, deliberate leaders. Leaders with intentional and long term visions which have been cultivated over a long period of growth #EkitiDecides2018
No matter small you think you are now, start from somewhere. Read my thread on Awolowo's Action Group formation. Keep working at it. Take it to brilliant people for feedback. Get yourself prepared don't stumble on it #EkitiDecides2018
