(Thread) I wanted to discussed why I think Mueller has everything he needs to prove multiple Trump crimes. Some of you may be disappointed that neither Manafort nor Cohen have officially flipped, but I believe that they don’t need to flip and here’s why.
As apparent by Manafort’s defense at trial, arguing that Gates is the one to blame for all of his perceived crimes, Rick Gates was there for almost everything, and he HAS flipped.
Anything Mueller needs from Manafort, Gates can provide, and this may be why Manafort chose to not cooperate. Mueller probably wasn’t giving him a good enough deal after Gates decided to cooperate.
Gates can provide substantial details on communications between Trump, Manafort, and the Russians. In fact Gates was in the White House far longer than Manafort was, meaning he may be even more valuable. Gates is the key to 50% of the ‘Collusion” investigation.
The other 50% belongs to Roger Stone. Stone is the one who appears to have obtained hacked information about the DNC from the Russians and/or Wikileaks.
He’s the key to proving that Trump conspired to commit crimes against 18 U.S. Code § 1030 - ‘Fraud and related activity in connection with computers’. If Trump asked Stone to obtain, share or leak any hacked material, Trump would be a part of this conspiracy.
All that Mueller needs is a testimony from Stone regarding communication with Trump in regards to this stolen material. Now, you may think that Stone won’t talk, but today a Federal judge ordered Andrew Miller, a former associate of Stone, to testify via subpoena before the...
Mueller team. Thus, Stone will have two options, cooperate and get a very lenient sentence, or don’t cooperate and goto prison for possibly the rest of his life. It’s almost inconceivable to believe that Stone will not cooperate.
Now, that just covers the ‘Collusion’ part of the probe. There are also areas related to obstruction of justice and financial crimes (money laundering, bank fraud, etc) that Mueller appears to be investigating.
In the Obstruction case, Mueller appears to already have everything he needs, along with White House attorney testimony. He doesn’t need anything else. He doesn’t need Manafort or Cohen to prove obstruction. He has Sessions, Rosenstein, Comey, Hope Hicks and Don McGahn.
As for the Money Laundering and final crimes that he’s likely investigating, Mueller has paper trails, Felix Sater and perhaps Michael Cohen, if and when he decides to flip. In other words, Trump is in trouble regardless of whether Manafort and Cohen talk.
Trump is finally realizing this and that’s the reason he has been even more unhinged than normal.
