I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

The best response to Trump’s attacks on the media is not capitulation.

It’s owning up to the mistakes and practices that have so greatly eroded public trust in the first place.
To be clear, I’m talking about Iraq here.
Yes, Trump is making a bad faith argument. Of course he is! That’s not the point.

The point is that the “WAR!” dig is about Iraq. Because a lot of people are still (rightly) pretty pissed about that.
Why does, for example, Glenn Greenwald still have (astonishingly) credibility on the left?

Because he’s branded himself as a tireless critic of the Iraq War/national security state supporting mainstream media.
It would’ve taken a lot of wind out of Greenwald’s sails — and Trump’s, too — if there had been an honest accounting of elite media failures since the turn of the century.
