JAFA: If you point a camera at a Black person, on a psychoanalytical level it functions as a White gaze. It triggers survival modalities that we have. It doesn’t matter if a Black person is behind the camera or not, because the camera functions as an instrument of the White gaze.
Just continuing to think about the ways that The Camera (cameras, cellphones, body cameras, dashcams) continues to betray and snitch on its erstwhile accomplices.
Jafa (Arthur Jafa) goes on to say "it’s recording evidence of people....hence there are certain things [they] can [do], certain things [they] can’t [do]."

Jordan Peele references this black distrust of The Camera by using it as the instrument that breaks the trance of the sunken place.

That is, the buried black person inside is effected by literally nothing EXCEPT the awareness that their picture was taken.
