Transcript on today's hearing in the Manafort case where the media tried to get the names/addresses of the jurors.

How did the media's lawyer respond to the Judge's concern for juror safety?

Will the media make other efforts to get juror info?

Thread.
As has been reported, Judge Ellis articulates his reason for keeping the juror names and addresses sealed: for "the peace and safety of the jurors."
Judge: "I've received criticism and threats. I can imagine they would, too."

He explains that some jurors would have requested to be excused if they had known that sitting on the jury would've made their names be exposed.
Judge then rightfully expresses his concern about "the integrity of this process."

He understands that allowing the public to access juror names/addresses could very well impact deliberations.
The attorney for the media makes his case:

"The presumption of openness prevails, unless you can articulate a strong reason to believe that secrecy is required to, essentially, protect the integrity of the jurors' verdict process or their safety."
Judge: You've heard my articulation. You don't like it or don't think it's adequate?

Media lawyer: Your Honor, I don't know that it is specific enough.

The Judge is about to get specific...
Judge: I won't reveal any threats. "The Marshals won't agree with that. But I can tell you there has been. And I have no reason to believe that if [the jury] were exposed, they wouldn't be threatened"

Media Lawyer: "Uh-huh."
Judge: "So that's my reason. I think it's sufficiently specific. I've deliberately filed or entered an order, allowing you to intervene."

Media Lawyer: "Uh-huh."
Judge Ellis continues:

"I am absolutely clear that to do so would create a risk of harm to them."

"I won't tell you what threats I have received, but I will tell you I have the marshal's protection. They go where I go."

"I don't even go to the hotel alone."
I referred to the media's next step. Here it is.

They're requesting an order from the Judge so that the matter may be appealed.

The media won't stop until they get the names and addresses of the jurors.

Real classy group, @jaketapper
An editorial on all this...

This motion to obtain juror names and addresses DURING DELIBERATION send a message to the jury: Think about what you're doing because we'll show up at your home, at your school, at your place of work to make you answer for what you did.
Imagine if Manafort was acquitted, or if there was a hung jury, and CNN, etc. was successful in obtaining juror addresses.

The lunatic left would crucify those poor people.

And the media would sit back and admire their work.
