honestly the only food I don't eat for food safety reasons is sprouts

and that's mostly bc I just fuckin hate sprouts. it's like taking a big ol' bite of pubes, which is not something I personally would pay money to do
But also, I'm a healthy adult, & healthy adults have more leeway than the rest of us w food poisoning.

Different people have different susceptibility to food poisoning. Kids under 5, the elderly, & folks w compromised immune systems would want to be a lot more rigorous.
A lot of food safety folks have a list of stuff they won't eat.

Me, never have I gotten food poisoning from something where I thought "this is a food likely to lead to puking" while eating it (like cut melons or leafy greens or sthing). So why bother getting all het up about it.
There's also a big element of "the cobbler's kids are always barefoot." Like... looking for reasons to be suspicious of food is what I do *at work.* If I'm *not at work,* I'm talking to people & hanging out. Not inspecting the restaurant.
(Plus after a lot of time inspecting, if there's something really gross happening, you don't have to look hard to see it. It jumps out at you. So I don't feel a need to be thinking about it all the time.)
Anyway tl;dr I grew up on Miami-Dade public school system food so if I got food poisoning easily I'd be dead now

hashtag iron stomach privilege

everyone else's mileage is going to vary on that so pls don't adopt these shitty food rules just bc I wrote about them
